A.Anthony Fernandes
Fare ye well Toddy ! Gentlemen and king amongst men .
In deepest empathy with cousin Merl D'Souza nee Mascarenhas , children Darryl, Rachel ,Daniel and families and the clan Mascarenhas /D'Souza
Hard to accept how quickly this final voyage flew by ,just months after we saw you here in London ,little knowing it would be the last time.
The first sight of a longish haired Toddy in his 'saffron coloured ' 'hippy' coloured drawstring pants , circa May 1973 in front of Fernandes Guest House Calangute Goa will always remain emblazoned in one's memory .
He was 25 and in his prime . My Aunt Melvyn and Uncle William (Willy ) both deceased had invited my Dad Luciano ,Mum Joyce , brother Leo (all since deceased) and myself to visit with the Mascarenhas family ,those halcyon summer days ,when Goa and Calangute moved to the pace of a much slower drummer !
He had travelled along with his brother Anthony and Bossie ( Bosco) and perhaps others across the overland so named Hippy Trail across Turkey ,Iran, Afghanistan etc to Goa , a route that would soon become almost impossible especially after the Soviet's invaded Afghanistan .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippie_trail
Kind and caring to a fault , humble and unassuming , yet quietly king of his own counsel and castle
Rest ye well, good Sir ! May we strive to emulate the life you lived so well
Valhalla beckons !
