The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Joan Bruno can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: I was so sad to hear of Joan's passing. We were texting in late August and I knew she was losing her battle. So sad to lose such a good friend. She was a long-time friend from Junior Miss days and I always looked forward to seeing her at the shore. i will always remember her steaming lobsters with me! Love you forever, Joanie.........

Condolence: Joan was my keyboarding teacher in the late 80s, and then I returned to East to teach in 1997. Even after her retirement, I enjoyed seeing her and catching up when she came in to substitute. She was part of the fabric of that school for a very long time and I am saddened that most of the staff who are there now did not get to know her and her contributions. I received word of her passing on the first day of school this week which is somewhat fitting. God bless her and the loved ones she leaves behind.

Condolence: Joan was my typing teacher and Color Guard coach at Cherry Hill HS East in the early 70’s. She was a great friend of our family from then and throughout the years. She was always interested, kind and engaged with people, as well as very conscientious in her career and work with students. Recently we have been texting and she told me how much she has struggled over these last months but she has impacted me with her attitude of courage, perseverance and acceptance in the midst of critical illness. I am very sad to hear of her passing but relieved for her that she is no longer suffering, believing that she is reunited with her beloved family members who have gone on before and with her Savior. You are missed, Joanie.

Condolence: Joni was my roommate for two years at St. Joseph's College in Emmitsburg, MD. She was a loving and caring woman and, I'm sure, an excellent teacher, very thorough and always well prepared.

She was the one who called me several times and encouraged me to come to our 50th reunion this past spring. I did, and it was wonderful to see her and our other classmates again!

I know she is in heaven now at peace and watching over all of us. I will always remember you, Joni.

Condolence From: Luanne Allen (Cumberland County Junior Miss 1980)
Condolence: Just thinking about Joan and the many young girls that she touched through Junior Miss. I was one of those lucky ones. I was not quite sure how she did it, but she knew every individual Jr Miss, not just their name but their year. There were many of us. About 20 years ago, my husband and I bought our first beach house on the same block as Joan. We saw her almost every summer day reading on the beach, and we would catch up. Then we moved 10 blocks away, but almost everyday in the summer I would walk by her house and again we would catch up. This year I noticed her house was torn down and I immediately called her. We talked for a while and we caught up as usual except this time she had bad news. So this past Saturday I walked by her old lot and called her once more. She returned my call by text. That was our last conversation. Thanks Joan for all you did for NJ Junior Miss and all the young woman involved. God bless.

Condolence: I've been blessed to have known Joan over the last couple of years, through church , school , and as mutual long time residents of Cherry Hill. We shared so many fond memories .

She was a loving woman, dedicated to her family , faith, colleagues, and students , whom she spoke so lovingly of. I never had Joan as a teacher, but saw her in church and recognized her. Through our conversations I learned of former students who'd come up to her at various public places and ask if she was Miss Bruno from Cherry Hill East. They'd go on to tell her that they weren't the best student at the time , but how her teaching really helped them. She was pleased, but seemed a little surprised , and I reminded her of how students love to see their former teachers to express their appreciation and also how comforting it is for them to see a former teacher.

Joan also shared how she loved running the pageants , being class advisor , and remaining connected to former students and colleagues.

Her family was so dear and supportive to her.

Joan has inspired me to be my best. I miss her and will always pray for her and her family.

Rest in peace, dear friend. I know that you are lovingly wrapped in the Lord's arms and in my prayers.
