Condolences

Condolence From: Gene Kizer Jr
Condolence: I loved Aunt Betty. She was a wonderful person all her life. I remember when she lived with Aunt Belle and Uncle Bruce in downtown Charleston across from the Darlington Apartments. I can see her in that house now. She always remembered all her nephews and nieces at Christmas. I had so much fun with her and Natalie at Sara's wedding when I took Aunt Betty and Natalie in a pedicab from St. Philip's Church to the Carolina Yacht Club for the reception. What a blast! We were cruising through downtown Charleston yelling and waving at people on the street, me and these two wonderful old ladies! Aunt Betty dealt with Parkinson's Disease with dignity and strength. She never wanted people to do for her. She did for her own self. I remember during Sara's wedding, it was my job to pick up Aunt Betty and Natalie from Uncle Hires house on Sullivan's Island and get them to the church in downtown Charleston. When Aunt Betty got in the back seat, she started to buckle her seat belt but was having trouble. I reached over to help her but she said thank you, I can get it. She struggled with it a moment but finally got it. I was proud of her. She always did for herself. The last time I saw her, two years ago on Folly Beach at the Crab Shack with other family, I was honored to sit by her and talk to her the whole time. She ate heartily and drank a Margarita I think! We had a great time that day. I included Aunt Betty in the dedication of two of my books. She lived a good, proud, dignified life and everybody loved her. I am very proud that she is my blood.
