Mrs. Irene Goldie Burke, age 92, of Purdon, Texas passed away peacefully at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village on Friday, September 21, 2018. She was born on August 26, 1926 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Ivan Hulsizer and Alta Byrd Hulsizer.
Irene graduated high school and worked for A T & T as a supervisor for telephone operators in Dallas. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Thursday Bowling League and the Tea Ladies. Before moving to Purdon she was actively involved in the First Assembly of God Church in Lancaster and served as president of the Women’s M.U... Irene and her husband Lloyd raised cattle on their farm in Purdon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Glenda Burke-Brewer; her son, Michael Todd Burke and her brother, Robert Hulsizer.
Irene is survived by her son-in-law, Bill Brewer, her grandchildren, Phillip Brewer and wife, Laura; Glynn Barker and wife, Shawn; and Becky Little, and her great-grandchildren; Aeric Hansen, Sarah Brewer, and Sidney Barker. She is also survived by her niece, Dimple Tash and nephew, James Neal.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Corley Funeral Home from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chet Brake officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton-Beeman cemetery in Retreat, Texas.
