Stephen (Eustratios) Makredes, 70, of Westwood, passed away on September 30, 2018. He is survived by his loving wife Demetria (Koumarianos), his daughter, Maria, and his brothers, George Makredes, and his wife Leona of Arlington; John, of North Port, Florida; Charles, and his wife Despina, of Melrose; and Nicholas, and his wife Joana, of Naples, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Drugas) Makredes of Yarmouth Port. He met his beloved wife Demetria of 49 years, while a student at Hellenic College. He was employed for over 20 years as a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard, and, once retired, went on to open a flower shop in Norwood, Massachusetts. He loved nature and placed his caring hands on every growing, living thing. He was a Westwood resident for over 40 years, and cherished his home. His love for Christ and His Church was expressed in so many ways, notably through many years of decorating the Epitaphio, and using his beautiful chanting voice during the Hairetismoi services, learning the Aspile from memory. His artistic talents were numerous, and showed themselves early in life, winning an art contest in grade school, and he had great culinary skill, especially in baking. He will be remembered for all of his many gifts, especially for his selflessness in caring for others, his loving spirit, humor, and, most of all, how he expressed his loving ways as husband and father. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Stephen’s memory to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England. Funeral Service on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, Parker and Ruggles Sts., Boston, Mass. at 11AM.
