Condolence: I was very saddened to hear of Bruce's passing. My time working with Bruce at Rockwood Institution was the most enjoyable time of my career. I have so many great memories about Bruce but one that stands out and I will never forget was Employee Assistance Week or some type of Employee Recognition week. We had hired a hypnotist to come to the Institution and Bruce allowed himself to be hypnotized much to the chagrin of all of his staff. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life. I remember thinking what a good sport he was to do that in front of everyone, so we could all enjoy it. All of the staff worked so hard for him and he made the workplace exceptional. Bruce was a salt of the earth guy, very unpretentious, kind, smart, and funny. One of the best leaders I have ever seen. My deepest condolences to you Mavis and all of your families. He will be missed by so many of us.

Condolence: I remember Bruce for saying "been there, done that, got the t-shirt". This was very appropriate in many conversations and brought lots of humour to the family. My brother Milt and played hockey, slow pitch and fished with Bruce; with way to many stories tell or should tell. We had a great trip years ago at Besnard Lake. He was great to talk with on any topic and would provide a great sounding board for things going on. I remember all the Sunday barbeques at Bruce and Mavis' house in Saskatoon which brought the family together and provided great memories for one and all.

Condolence From: Clare McNab
Condolence: I am sad to hear of Bruce's passing. My sympathies to his wife and family. I have fond memories of Bruce. I was the Kikawinaw/Warden at Okimaw Ohci Healing Lodge. I did not 'grow up' in CSC and Bruce and Don Kynoch took me under their wing and taught me the ropes! I was made an honorary Manitoban, so that I could sit with the 'guys' of the Manitoba corridor. I learned so much and appreciate the time that was spent with me. We spent a lot of times at meetings, smoking and talking over issues of the day or year. Bruce would laugh when he would see me and say, "Here comes Clare, pulling her wagon - full of issues". I would respond, 'my wagon is getting smaller & at least I realize that I have a wagon". He also liked how I told stories, setting the environment, who was there, what happened, etc. He called me at home when my husband passed away, and told me to have a 'snort' to help my grieving. A fond farewell to a good man. One of the last of his kind that had a good heart and showed kindness to the 'new kid'. I have retired now too, and I miss some of my buddies. I am slowly recovering from my hurts from CSC. I am glad that Bruce had a few years to enjoy at home, with his family. Prayers to all of those that remember him. And if you're a drinker, have a 'snort' for me.

Condolence: I became friends with Bruce through our wives, Georgie and Mavis, who worked together for many years.
I remember parties in Campbell's garage in Saskatoon. Bruce prepared all the food including his famous spicy beans. He loved to served up drinks and food and just sit back and observe everyone. Bruce was a great listener and believed everyone had a story to tell. He was a shrewd judge of character and accepted everyone for who they were.
We all went to Newfoundland for the girls to attend a meeting. Bruce and I explored George Street, with Bruce listening to stories and buying lunch for the regulars who were down on their luck.
In the last few years Bruce's health deteriorated, but he always supported Mavis in her sports and hiking trips with Georgie. Mavis, he will be by your side even now, waiting to hear about your travels, and keeping the home fires burning. Take care.

Condolence: I was very saddened to learn of Bruce's passing. I had the honour and privilege of working with Bruce, for several years, at Rockwood until I retired in 2002. I must say I did miss the comradeship we had at Rockwood, after I retired, and Bruce was at the top of that. In the 30 years of my correctional career, the years at Rockwood were some of the most memorable for me and Bruce was a big part of that also. I viewed Bruce as not only my boss but my friend. Bruce gave me the leeway to manage and make decisions as I wanted t and never interfered, but would offer advice when it was solicited. He was truly a one of a kind Warden and the CSC was fortunate to have him. He will be missed immensely and my heartfelt condolences to Mavis and the Campbell family at this sad time. Remember the good times with Bruce and I'm sure there were many. I know, for certain, I have many, many good times to remember.

Condolence: Bruce wasn't only an awesome boss, he was a really great guy! It was an honor to serve under your watch Sir! ✊🏾😢❤️ He'd never let me call him Sir. I always appreciated Bruce for his kindness and compassion and for encouraging Indigenous staff to push the barriers for Indigenous people in building the bridge to the community from incarceration. My heart is with you Mavis and your family. Thank you for sharing your good man and his colorful stories about Mexico! He always had a good antidote to share.
