Obituary for Ernest F. Ogin

Ernest F. Ogin, 95, husband of the late Celia Ogin, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Apple Rehab of Rocky Hill. Born in Slocum, Pennsylvania on May 12, 1923, he was the son of the late Jacob and Bertha Ogin. He had resided in Meriden for most of his life prior to moving to Berlin. Mr. Ogin was employed by Pratt & Whitney as a machinist, prior to retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 45, Meriden. Ernest was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great great-grandfather. He was an avid hunter with his dog Jack by his side at times and he loved gardening. His daughters, Rose and Sherry lovingly cared for him since the passing of his wife.
He is survived by one daughter, Sherry Ann Gualano and her husband Richard of Rocky Hill; five grandchildren, Kevin Gonyea and his wife Beth, Lori Keene and her husband Michael, Amy Gonyea, Cody Gualano and Alyssa Gualano; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Francouer and his wife Jessica, Scott Passmore and his wife Kayla, Brandon Passmore and his wife Victoria, Jacob Gonyea, Kailee Gonyea, Xavier Heshmaty, Melissa Gonyea and Jeffrey Gonyea and three great great-grandchildren, Madison Shatkyvich, Dakota Rose Francouer and Scott Passmore Jr. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Rose Marie Gonyea and her husband Leonard; a great great-grandson, Wyatt Ivan Passmore and numerous brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450. Burial with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
