Following the war and discharge from the Army, Frank soon was back in the military, this time enlisting in the Navy. He became a sonarman (later sonar technician) and participated in the Korean War. He became an expert in antisubmarine warfare (ASW) during his tour of duty at the Naval Air Station (NAS), Lakehurst, NJ, aboard U.S. Navy blimps when he was part of the “Lighter than Air” (LTA) Navy during the 1950s. He also served on board the USS Osborne, the USS Fletcher, the USS John W. Tomlinson, the USS Laffey (where he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer), and the USS Richmond K.
