JJ Mathewson
Wow. Condolences to Jim's family.
I am honored to have known him. What a stand-up guy! And more importantly, Jim was a mentor to me as a Freshman and Sophomore at Staples High School.
During the Recession of 2008/2009, the Westport Public Schools was asked to cut budgets by $1.4m. As a longtime supporter of education, Jim and I linked up to see if we could get the proposed cuts reversed.
He helped me and many other classmates organize a massive rally on Town Hall, megaphones, cameras and all. He helped us fight the good fight. While I don't quite remember how the results shook out, I do remember that Jim was such a class act throughout it all. His unwavering support for quality education, his connection to young students, and his passion for a life full of zest is something I will forever appreciate.
RIP Jim. Glad to have known you.
