Phyllis L. Mekel, a resident of Southampton Estates, formerly a longtime resident of Warminster, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018. She was 88.
Phyllis was the loving wife of the late Jack Francis Mekel.
Born in Philadelphia, Phyllis was a daughter of the late William and Helen Lewin. In the early 1950’s Phyllis and Jack moved to Warminster and were involved in various community and sports organizations, especially enjoying the startup of the Warminster Pioneers football and cheerleading programs in which all of their children participated.
Phyllis served on the Bucks County Women’s Council and was an executive member of the Bucks County Republican Committee. She also served as Chair of the Warminster GOP. As members of the Republican committee Phyllis worked along with her husband at the polls for over forty years each election day greeting voters at the Hartsville Fire Company. In addition to her commitment to the Republican Party, Phyllis also served on the Boards of the Warminster Municipal Authority, Independence Blue Cross and the Peace Valley Holistic Center. She enjoyed her job working for the County of Bucks as the Commissioner’s Secretary for many years.
In her free time, she enjoyed watching college and professional football and loved to cook and sew. Phyllis was a longtime member of Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church and found joy is its ministry and music.
Phyllis is survived by 3 sons Robert (Margaret), James and William and a daughter Laureen Gallagher, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother George M. Lewin of Quarryville, PA.
Phyllis’s Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church, 1401 Meetinghouse Rd, Warminster, PA 18974. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 pm Monday at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington and 10:00 am until the time of service Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow in Doylestown Cemetery.
