Irene Mozden, 87, a life-long resident of New Britain, CT died peacefully at home Saturday, November 17, 2018. Irene was born in New Britain, CT June 9, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Jacob and Emilia (Kaczynska) (Kulesza) Malinowski. She attended New Britain schools and worked at Pollowitz, Pollowitz & Miller. She was a lifelong member of St Jerome's Church in New Britain, CT. Irene loved reading, knitting afghans and sweaters, bingo and playing cards especially pinochle. After her husband died, she loved her weekly outings at the senior center playing cards with her friends. Irene will be remembered and missed by all.
Irene leaves behind her family of four daughters - Deborah Salerni and her husband Frank and son Ben of Cromwell, CT, Karen Hinton and her husband Augustine and daughter Leslie of Staten Island, NY, Arlene Gear and her children Edward and Emily of Wilmington, MA, Janice Kay and her husband David and children Garrett and Morgan of Senoia, GA. She also leaves behind a grandson-in-law Mike Belforti and two great-grandsons Tristan and Gavin Belforti and her sister Dolores Ziemko as well as many nieces and nephews and godchildren. Irene was predeceased by her husband Edward Mozden of forty-nine years, her brothers and sisters – Joseph Malinowski, Agnes (Malinowski) Russek and Helen (Malinowski) McNamara, Edward Kulesza, Mary (Kulesza) Wojculewicz, and Anna (Kulesza) Ferrone.
Funeral rites for Irene will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 11 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. at St. Jerome Church, 1010 Slater Rd., New Britain, CT. Committal service and final resting place will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 662 Burritt St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Direction to funeral home – I-84 east or west, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit – one mile down on right. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Ave., 1st fl., Hartford, CT. 06112.
