NORTH BELGRADE, MAINE
Edward R. Carrell - age 87, of North Belgrade, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at MaineGeneral Long Term Care Facility at Glenridge Drive in Augusta, ME.
Ed was born to Annie and Wilber Carrell in Oakland, Maine on January 13, 1931. He was the youngest of six children. He attended Oakland schools and graduated from Williams High School in 1949.
He married Florence Cook of North Belgrade on March 28, 1951 in Narberth, PA.
They soon moved to New York, where Ed attended Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. He graduated in 1956 with a degree in Natural Science.
They also lived in Denver, Colorado; Battle Creek, Michigan; and Beaumont, Texas where he worked with Junior Achievement before returning to Augusta, Maine in 1971.
Ed enjoyed traveling around the state as part of his job with the Maine Department of Transportation, retiring in 1999 at age 68. He became a master of crock pot cooking and enjoyed coming up with new recipes. He also enjoyed photography and took many photos on his travels.
Eventually they built a house on the shore of Great Pond in North Belgrade. There he developed his love of gardening and worked on many projects around the house.
Ed was an active member of Augusta Baptist Church and a member of the missionary committee for many years.
Survivors include his sons; Jon Carrell of North Belgrade and Robert Carrell and his wife Linda of Vassalboro, ME; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Carrell of East Millinocket, ME; grandson, Andrew Carrell of Ohio; granddaughter, Rebecca and husband Nathan Overlock of Denver, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his wife, Florence; his eldest son, Edward (Ted) R. Carrell Jr.; and his sisters and brothers.
Family and friends may visit from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday Dec. 7, 2018 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St. Augusta, ME where a funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Howard Cole, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Belgrade in the spring of 2019.
