Vera M. Auer, 93

Vera M. Auer, 93, of Ashland passed away early Tuesday morning, January 1, 2019 at the Kingston of Ashland.

She was born on June 15, 1925 to the late Arthur and Glada (nee Piper) Lynn.

Vera graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1944. As a contributor to the greatest generation, she installed oxygen masks in airplanes at the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation, doing her part for the war effort.

Vera married George Henry Auer Jr. on November 6, 1955 and they called Ashland home.

She retired after more than 22 years from the City of Ashland, where she served as a crossing guard. In her earlier years, she worked at Samaritan Hospital as a T.V. hostess and the Star Telephone Company as a switch board operator.

Throughout her life, Vera was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed sewing, crafting, and reading. She made countless clothing items for her daughters, as well as outfits for Barbie dolls and decorative geese. Vera truly loved musicals and dancing with her partner, George, her loving husband of 54 years of marriage. The happy couple would adventure across the country enjoying scenic car and bus trips together.

She is survived by four daughters: Sandy (Rick) Honaker of Trevor, WI; Sonnie (Fred) Bohnke of Lucas; Stacie (John) Sidle of Ashland; and Sheila (Jon) Sherman of Apollo Beach, Florida.; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-laws, JoAnn Auer of Wooster and Peg Auer of Deltona, FL.

In addition to her parents, Vera is preceded in death by George Auer Jr. on March 21, 2010; one daughter, Sherry Cooke on August 19, 2018; two brothers, Wayne Lynn and Merle McKinley; and one sister, Miriam Pence.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Don Earlenbaugh officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
