Obituary for Arthur Allen Gates

Arthur Allen Gates (Art), age 73, of Arlington, TX, passed into the arms of our Eternal Father on Saturday evening, January 5, 2019, after a very lengthy illness that began in April of 2017. During his lengthy illness, he was a warrior, a fighter until the end, and never complained of anything, even at the end.

Final arrangements are being handled by Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, TX, 76013. Funeral services will be held at Sagamore Baptist Church, 2301 Dottie Lynn Parkway, Fort Worth, 76120, on Saturday, January 12, Reverend Bobby Atwell presiding. Graveside services will be held at Moore Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, January 15. Visitation will be at Wade Funeral Home on Friday, January 11, from 6pm until 8pm.

Art was born on July 13, 1945, in Wichita Falls, TX. He graduated from Rider High School and attended Midwestern State University. Art was married to Pat Gates of Bedford, TX in 2003, after meeting in 2001 at a church fund raiser for 9/11 families and victims. Art worked as a main frame computer programmer for most of his working career years, most recently at Taylor Corporation, formerly known as Venture Solutions. Prior to going to work at Taylor Corporation, he was employed by Dallas County Appraisal District for many years.

Art loved the Lord, Billy Graham, Dale Earnhardt, fast cars - most especially Corvettes, NASCAR races, the Texas Longhorns, our fur babies, and most especially he loved Pat and his daughter, Summer, unconditionally.

Art is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughter, Summer Martin, of Wylie, TX; our grandchildren, Kyle Martin and Kady Martin; his son-in-law, Jason Martin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Becky Morton and Dave Morton of Bedford; his only nephew, Dawson Morton; and his mother-in-law, Nana R. Gallagher, who he loved like his own. Our Golden Retriever is still looking for his best play friend.

Everyone that ever met Art loved him and knew what a gentle, kind, loving person he was. He would greet everyone he ever met with a sweet smile and kind words.

Art is preceded in death by his loving parents, James Allen Gates and Leonida (Sandefur) Gates.
