Obituary for James R Dodson

He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a son of the late C.E. and Mary Evans Dodson. He was also preceded in death by his wife Barbara McIntyre Dodson, a sister, Ruth Dodson Thomas and a brother, Eugene Dodson.
He was an active member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Home Service Class.
He was a graduate of the McMinn County High School Class of 1952, and served as President of his class. He graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan University.
He was a teacher and supervisor for 33 years with the Athens City School System, was a dedicated community volunteer, was a member of the Tennessee Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame, ASA Softball Hall of Fame, and was a High School and College sports referee.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tim Jennings of Decatur; a son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Ann Dodson of Athens; three granddaughters, Mary Ann Dodson, Katie Jennings Maddron, and Kirstie Jennings Neely; a grandson, Will Dodson; and three great-granddaughters, Annslee Maddron, Acelynn Maddron, and Lynnlee Neely.
A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 pm, Monday, January 21, 2019 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. David Graybeal officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 pm Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Honorary pallbearers will be The Home Service Class of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Tri-County Center, 3030 Lee Highway, Athens, TN 37303; or Keith Memorial United Methodist Church, Nourish One Child, P.O. Box 1, Athens, TN 37371-0001.
