Obituary for Mary E. "Betty" Bartelson (Brugger)

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Brugger) Bartelson, born June 15, 1917 joined the rest of her immediate family in Heaven on January 24, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, 7 siblings, her spouse, 2 children, and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by her grandchildren Anthony Bartelson (Patricia), Jo Ann (Button) Prentiss (Paul), Margaret Bartelson Forman (Randy), Nephews, Jim Brugger, Ross Brugger, Tom Brugger, Barney Brugger, Dale Brugger, Nieces Peggy Brugger Hobbs, Becky Brugger Bracht and their families. She was a life-long member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, was very involved with the local chapter of Catholic Daughters of America (participated in several CDA Bridge Flights), taught swimming for the Red Cross at Lake Geneva beach for years, played piano & organ at St Francis for years, was part of the hot lunch program there, too, before it joined the school district hot lunch program. She was very active in the local cancer society fund raising (annual door-to- door collection, the Corrine Kreissl Classic Car Rally, Tour de Lac bike events) and ran their patient outreach program for some time. She did piano accompaniment for several students at Denison and Badger for both vocal and instrumental competitions. Her daughter once called her a “professional volunteer”. She was never without a bag of knitting (which also probably had a deck of cards in it). She was very active in creating baby layettes (knitting the sweater, booties and hats and helping create the quilts) for Milwaukee Birthright. A graveside service will be held 11a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Lake Geneva, WI followed by a luncheon at St. Francis at 11:30a.m. Steinke-Lazarczyk Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lake Geneva, WI is proudly serving the family.
