Obituary for Nancy C. Ressler (Messick)

Nancy C. Messick Ressler, 78, of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019, in the AdventHealth Celebration Hospital, Kissimmee, FL.
Born in Easton, MD, on July 23, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Perry R. and Lillian Woodward Messick.
Nancy retired as the Transportation Coordinator for Lower Dauphin School District. She was a 1958 graduate of North Dorchester High School. A true patriot, Nancy dedicated her time to helping veterans by giving over 5,000 volunteer hours at the Lebanon VA Medical Center, as well as serving as Deputy of Volunteer Services. She was Past Cumberland, Dauphin & Lebanon County Council President for the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Pennsylvania; an active life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 265, Hummelstown, where she served as Past President and Chaplain; and was a member of the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Unit 1687. Nancy was a member of the Red Hot Toddies Red Hat Society and served as its former Queen, and was also a member of the Giggle Girls Red Hat Society. Nancy was a founding member of the former Lower Dauphin High on Kids. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and traveling to Florida; but most important to Nancy was spending time with her family.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Earl L. Ressler, whom she married on November 18, 1989; one daughter, Michele G. Persaud, wife of Wendell of Arnold, MD; one son, Mark G. Matthews, husband of Selma of Burke, VA; two step-daughters, Michelle M. Ressler of Emeryville, CA, and Mary Ann Nissley, wife of Patrick of Campbelltown; four grandchildren, Andrew Persaud, husband of Aley, Julia Matthews, Anthony Matthews, and Miranda Nissley; four sisters, Clara Mae Evans, Shirley Abbott, Ann Slacum and Janet Messick, all of Cambridge, MD; two brothers, Robert Messick and Kenny Messick, both of Cambridge, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael G. Matthews; one step-son, Scott Ressler; one sister, Gladys Nepert; and three brothers, Donald Messick, Norris Messick, and Paul Messick.
Funeral service will be held Friday, February 15, 2019, at 10:30 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, PA. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. Friends are invited to the viewings in the funeral home on Thursday, February 14, 2019, from 6 to 8 PM and on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of the service. The American Legion Auxiliary Prayer Service will be held Thursday at 5:45 PM in the funeral home.
