Obituary for Wilford August Lummerding

Our beloved Wilford August Lummerding passed away on March 29, 2019 with his wife and loved ones by his side.
Wilford was born in Cudworth, SK on March 15,1931 to his parents John and Hedwig. He was the oldest boy of 12 brothers and sisters. Wilford took on many added responsibilities in helping to provide for the family.
Wilford farmed for over 71 years east of St. Brieux after moving from Dalesford in the spring of 1948 at the age of 17 years old. When he arrived, there was only bush and a lot of hard work. With his .22 calibre gun, his pet dog “Rover” and a horse by his side, he rebuilt a log shack and tended to building fences. He worked hard getting things ready for their cattle before his parents and siblings would arrive later that fall.
Wilford farmed with his parents and his youngest brother Victor, growing crops, building barns, corrals and expanding the livestock herd, which ranged from pigs, sheep, cattle and chickens. On April 4,1971 his father passed away, followed by Victor on December 30,1980 and then his mother on April 12,1984. After his brother’s death, Victor’s wife and five children continued farming together with Wilford.
On November 14,1995 Wilford married Alice and they continued to farm together along with his stepson Darrell for another 24 years.
