My memories of Uncle Dan
How do I start, what do I say? Tears dripping off my face, our Uncle Dan is gone. My Uncle Dan is gone. Since I was a small boy working at Uncle Danny's house on Hill and Dale Road in Carmel, he always made me feel special while he taught me how to do things and made sure that I did those things with care and preciseness.
Uncle Dan is one of a group of special uncles that was so smart and so witty. I can name them all, but you know them. Uncle Anthony is still going strong!
I will never forget you Uncle Dan. I will never forget the way you looked at me with that surprised look when you watched me DJ at the family reunion. When you watched me play the drums. It was an unforgettable look of awe. I could hear you thinking (Look at this kid). You didn't have to say it. As all of my uncles from that side of the family, it was always on your face.
A good dresser. Uncle Dan always looked nice. He always dressed for the occasion. So professional, so clean. Uncle Dan commanded respect, not verbally, but by the way he was. A good, strong, confident and smart man.
I feel like it was yesterday that we were together. Miles separated us, life moved forward, we all grow older. Sometimes we lose physical touch, but I want you to know that I thought of you at least once or twice a week for no specific reason accept for that I would sometimes think about how you carried yourself and I would emulate your calmness. The time that you took to teach me how to do things right was passed on to thousands of students that I taught to be EMTs and Paramedics over the last thirty years, so your life force will go on. You will continue to change lives.
Uncle Dan. I am so sorry that I cannot be there to attend your funeral. I have a heavy heart that I will not be there. God Bless my mom, she will carry the flag for us Uncle Dan. You will be missed, but Never, Never, Never Ever forgotten. I will pray for you and I will pray to you. My kids will continue to know of you and hear your name, and so will their kids.
Rest in piece Uncle Danny. I love you. Patrick.
