Obituary for Darien Richard Christopher Hicks

Darien Richard Christopher Hicks (Dee Dee) – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Darien on June 30, 2019, at the McMaster Children’s Hospital, at the age of 6. He was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed away.
Loving son of Kalena Chamberlain and Chris Hicks. Cherished grandson of Richard Chamberlain (Batpaw). Cherished grandson of Allison Chamberlain and Denis Martel (Papi). Cherished grandson of Emily Anne Wyer. Dear nephew of Richie Chamberlain, Wayne Hicks (Casey), Kasey Wyer and many other Aunts, Uncles, Great Aunts and Great Uncles. Darien is survived by his Godmother Amanda Mercier (Momma A), many cousins and many friends. Predeceased by Papa George Powell and Nana June Powell and Uncle Tim.
Darien was an extraordinary, beautiful and loving son. He was very compassionate, helpful and caring towards others. He was a bright little boy with the sweetest smile. He loved school, his friends and playing soccer. He wouldn’t go anywhere without his phone! Darien was born on Christmas Day, a very special day—a time for giving. This was Darien’s time to make a difference. Darien is our hero and the best of him continues to live on in 5 young lives, who have been given hope and a better life through his gift of organ donation.
Many thanks and gratitude to the Medical Staff at McMaster Children’s Hospital PICU Ward, Greater Niagara General Hospital and the First Responders. Special thanks to a friend of the family, Mindy Leveille, for her much-appreciated fundraising. A special and heartfelt thank you from the family to everyone for their loving support and generous donations.
Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, July 5th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland. Interment will follow the next day, Saturday, July 6th at the Fonthill Cemetery, 25 Highland Avenue, Fonthill at 1 pm with the procession leaving the funeral home at 12:30 pm.
Those who wish to, may make a memorial donation to the Ronald McDonald House, in Darien’s honour. Please consider giving the Gift of Life by registering your consent for organ and tissue donations at beadonor.ca.
