Carol Gorga Williams

To the family and loved ones of Tim E. Ryan, I offer my most profound condolences on the loss of a man whose goodness and kindness were a daily inspiration and an ongoing marvel. You who know him best know his strength, his courage, his sense of purpose and his capacity for unconditional love in the face of adversity. He fought tirelessly for every bit of life, long past the point when mere mortals would have said enough. It is hard for me to remind myself that he also had a love for humor and mischief that his friends so enjoyed. I know he had an inexhaustible collection of jokes. He made people smile, he made them laugh out loud sometimes but in his gentle way, he led by example that no person living or dead could find reason to criticize, He was a human being certainly but I always referred to him as a Most holy man whose missionary work was much needed in any place he found himself. I know that his loss is profound and I hope with everything in me that one day - and it takes as long as it takes - your journey through grief will allow you to turn pain into wonderful sepia-toned recollections of a man whose lmeasure we are unlikely to see again. On that day, I know you will achieve some measure of peace even if his loss remains incalculable. Every since I heard he was gone, the soundtrack to Les Miserables has been playing in My head. About 36 hours later, I figured out why. It wanted me to recall a line that I think perfectly describes my friend Tim: “to love another person is to see the face of God.” I wish his loved ones peace and comfort. I will miss his counsel, his infinite care for the least of us and his sheer impishness. I don’t often use the word hero but in this case, it applies. Tim, I know you are where you deserve to be but I for one wish you could have tarried a while longer.
