Condolence: Erika was one of my closest friends. She was someone I could always talk to, she would always listen. She didn’t interrupt or throw advice at me, she’d hear me out and give me her honest opinion. I valued that about her. She always made me laugh. The last time she came to visit me was just after last Christmas. We drove down from Liskeard to my place in Pickering, we got in a little late so we were getting ready for bed. She had developed an interest for alternative healing, and doing things that would help the mind heal the body and asked if I could show her how to smudge. Which is burning a little bit of sage, wafting the smoke towards your eyes, to see good things, to your mouth, to speak good things, to your ears, to hear good things, to your heart to allow goodness into your heart and your over all body. This is something people in my culture do to cleanse any negative energy from yourself and the space your in. And I’m telling her all this and she starts to smudge her eyes. She screamed “my eyes!” And I burst out laughing, and between laughter I told her “your supposed to close your eyes!” And we laughed together for a few minutes.
I’ll always carry a part of her in my heart. I send my deepest condolences to her family and everyone who loved her
