East Longmeadow Alexander M.”Alex” Camerlin , 19, died Thursday, March 18,2010 at Connecticut Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in his parents arms .Alex was born April 23,1990.He attended East Longmeadow Schools and graduated from East Longmeadow High School Class of 2008.Alex was very involved in high school activities including Student Handbook and School and Student Council. He was a co-assistant director and co-director of the Spartanum Spectacular yearly show at the High School. Alex loved filming and creating movies for friends and family. He spent hours filming friends and family skate boarding , then he would edit, add music and produce DVD’s for them. He filmed and edited sports events ,providing DVD’s for Seniors applying to college looking to provide viewing of their sports talent .He was a second year student at Springfield Technical Community College Liberal Arts Program with plans to transfer to a four year college to major in communications video and film production. His dream was to be a film director .He was an avid Fantasy Baseball fanatic. He enjoyed Xbox online with family and friends, Warp Tour Concerts, and was a true loyal Red Sox , Bruins and Celtics fan. He had been to countless Red Sox games over the years. He played Sled Hockey for nearly 10 years for Shriner’s Hospital. He enjoyed snow skiing on a bi-ski, horseback riding at Whispering Horse, faithfully went to the gym ,he loved riding his wheelchair bike around his neighborhood , kayaking, water tubing ,and swimming in his pool .Alex never let his disability stop him, and he never complained. He was kind ,generous, giving, sincere and sensitive .He took great pride in maintaining his independence and few can recall when he rarely asked for help .Alex is part of a very large family: Alex’s Mom ,Kimberly ”Kiley” and her fiancé, Patrick Flynn, his siblings, Zac and Amber(Wife)Camerlin of Agawam, twins, Keeley and Chase and twins Tanner and Rory , all at home, Jessie Flynn and Kevin Flynn, both of Springfield, his grandparents, Paul and Joyce Contois, Evelyn and Bob Lees, Gloria and Dan Flynn, Auntie Kristen ,nieces, Rachel ,Kelly, and Auntie Kathy. Alex’ s best friend, Ryan Lee. Alex’s Dad, Chuck Camerlin, Jr. and his wife Sue Camerlin and Nadine ,Mike, and Kyle McCoy ,his grandfather Chuck Camerlin, Sr and his wife ,Claire Camerlin, his grandmother ,Bette and her husband Darrel Geahigan, his uncles ,Chris and Craig Camerlin, and Aunt Robin Thomson , along with many beloved cousins .Special thanks to Dr Nordstrom, Dr Belmijian, and Dr Hepner and staff for their incredible care of Alex through the years. Special thanks to Connecticut Children’ s PICU staff, especially, Dr. Kanev, Dr . Zucker ,Dr.Comeau, Dr. Scholt, Dr. Martin, Dr.Lee, Dr. Leisher ,Dr. Rasoupoul ,along with the incredible Nurses of PICU, who went above and beyond in caring for Alex all the way until the very end. Alex’s strength and positive attitude will live in our hearts every day. Visiting hours for Alex are Tuesday , March 23,2010 from 3-7pm at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home,21 Tinkham Rd. Springfield . Family and friends are invited to meet directly at St. Michael ’s Church 110 Maple St, East Longmeadow on Wednesday,March24,2008 at 10am for a Liturgy of Christian Burial. Burial is private for the family.
