Obituary for Betty Nancy Trejo

Betty Nancy Trejo, 52, of Greeley, Colorado died Thursday, December 26, 2002, at North Colorado Medical Center.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 2, 2003, at the First Spanish Baptist Church, 1200 3rd Avenue, Greeley, Colorado with Military Honors by Greeley VFW Post #2121. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. at the church. Cremation will be completed.Betty was born January 18, 1950, in Edinburg, Texas to Cesario and Mary G. (Deleon) Trejo, Jr. She had lived in the Weld County area for over 40 years. She attended Frederick Junior High School and graduated from Longmont High School in 1970. She was a member of the Honor Society and Spanish Club. She then attended the University of Colorado - Boulder for one year and transferred to the University of Northern Colorado where she graduated with a BA in Secondary Education with an emphasis in bilingual education. She was an active member of UMAS organization in Boulder and continued at UNC. She became Miss UMAS in the 1972 pageant. Betty joined the Army and was in active duty for two years, then joined the Reserves, serving at Ft. Carson, Colorado. She was also a member of the National Guard.She taught for 12 years at Franklin Middle School and Greeley Central High School in the ESL program.She collected antiques, miniature statues, pottery, and drawings and was a good watercolor painter. She also enjoyed music and was a supporter of the arts in Greeley, especially her son's plays. She was a Booster parent, poet, and an active, strong woman that was full of life and traveled long distances to see her son.Her father, Cesario Trejo, Jr. of Greeley, CO; mother, Mary G. Trejo of Greeley, CO; son, 2nd Lt. William James Acosta-Trejo of Greeley, CO; brothers, William R. Trejo of Greeley, CO, Jack D. Trejo and wife Rebecca of Loveland, CO, and Harson Y. Trejo and wife Patty of Greeley, CO; sisters, Jean D. Trejo of Greeley, CO and Peggy J. Coryell and husband Larry of Las Vegas, NV; nephews, Anthony Coryell, Jason Trejo, Harson Y. Trejo, II; and niece, Nicole G. Trejo survive her.Memorial gifts may be made to the American Lung Association in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
