Obituary for Wilbur J. Piper Jr.

Wilbur J.  Piper Jr.
Wilbur J. Piper, Jr., 74, of Shippensburg, died Monday, September 10, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born December 15, 1937 in Newville, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Wilbur J., Sr. and Tressa E. Earley Piper.

Wilbur was a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church, Shippensburg. He retired from the Big Spring School District where he was a custodian. Wilbur was a 1955 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School. He was a member of AARP # 2525, Shippensburg. During Boy Scouts Wilbur earned the second highest award, achieving Order of the Arrow, and was a Scout Leader for over 32 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, crafts, hunting, fishing, camping, western movies, and most of all his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Wilbur was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristi Myers, a brother, Dale Piper, and a sister, Jean Thomas.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mildred B. Graham Piper whom he married October 21, 1961, two daughters, Rosalie L. Rinehart and her husband Ronald of Newville, and Beverly A. Myers and her husband Daryl of Shippensburg, three grandchildren, Matthew Myers of Shippensburg, and Nathan and Danielle Rinehart both of Newville, one brother, Paul W. Piper, Sr. of Newville, one sister, Betty L. Durf of Walnut Bottom and an aunt, Ruth Piper of Carlisle.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 13, 2012 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Barbara A. Servello. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
