Words could never adequately express the respect and admiration I had for Mrs. Hoag as both a dear friend and in a professional relationship while she was on the Towns County Family and Children Services Board and I was director. The great respect and admiration further extends to Dr. Clegg and Dr. Hoag for both their ultimate class and down to earth demeanor during my contacts with them. I recall visiting Dr. and Mrs. Clegg several times nearly sixty years ago when they would loan the Woods Grove Community Improvement Club, of which my Mother was president, a 45 RPM record of "Holy, Holy, Holy" I would play on our record player during the community improvement club's open house activity when the club won first place and then the sweepstakes award the second year for past winners in the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce competition throughout North Georgia. Dr. and Mrs. Clegg then lived in the little house on the corner which is still there, located beside the Clegg Auditorium which was built years later. Their loaning of the record and extended help with the activity in our community in those days was so typical of the manner in which Mrs. Hoag and both Dr. Clegg and Dr. Hoag were so helpful in and around Young Harris. I then had the privilege of visiting Dr. and Mrs. Hoag on several occasions for Mrs. Hoag to sign various forms for DFCS when she was chairman of the board. I could not have felt more welcome when visiting Dr. and Mrs. Clegg during those community improvement club days and then Dr. and Mrs. Hoag decades later in a both a cherished professional and personal relationship. I must mention Charlie as we were teammates on the Towns County High School baseball team when I was a senior and Charlie a sophomore and I kept score in many of his high school basketball games. I considered Charlie a dear friend and we had a wonderful time visiting at length at the time of the eightieth birthday celebration for Mrs. Hoag at Sharp Memorial. I will always cherish the memory of Mrs. Hoag and her extended family and appreciate so much the contributions they so tirelessly made in Towns County and beyond.
