Father

My father knew hard work. My favorite story that I often retell to my spoiled co-workers, involves him working in the steel mill. He and a few coworkers were assigned to replace firebrick inside an operating blast furnace. Encased in an asbestos fire suit, he was permitted to work 15 minutes out of every hour so as not to suffer heat stroke. Mixing anti-freeze with the mortar to retard its hardening, he was working away when suddenly he feel the weight of a dousing from a bucket of water. Looking up he saw his supervisor backing away with an empty pail. “Don’t worry, you just caught on fire. Keep working. You have 8 more minutes”. Makes the guys complaining that our company cars don’t have lumbar supports seem pretty petty.
