GENTLE GIANT

He loved his mama's table, she seemed to beam when she saw his gentle Smile, it's as if her eyes said, "Your my favorite".  His mama was a very strong willed lady, who was steady & sure. Uncle Kaliko loved that about his mom.

Uncle Kaliko loved music, singing, talking stories and laughing out loud. Kela mea whiffa by Eddie Kamae - The Sons of Hawaii, made him laugh - singing about the stink water, there in Lahaina, by the dump.

I enjoyed going camping with him too.  He would sit around the camp fire, telling stories of long ago and the ground shook when they all started laughing - but the ocean had no complaint of their loud outbursts. We kids knew better than to interupt their story telling.  Off limits, kapu, taboo area!

He worked mostly as a tour guide with Graylines bus, some with Maui Island tours & Roberts Hawaii.  He was a part of writing a book for Tour Guides here in the islands of Hawaii, it is now a rare book to find, but his younger brother Herman can fill you in.  While managing he educated many young drivers in this industry.

Later in his life he spoke of his relationship with The Lord Jesus, how he answered His call and started serving God.  His eyes sparkled as he spoke of God's goodness in his life.  Now his mission was to tell this lost generation of the love of this Almighty God. He was trilled to hear of anyone choosing Jesus and that huge Smile. He had found a Friend in Jesus, who understood all his sorrows and made everything brand new! This chapter in my Uncles life is where I saw the "Gentle Giant" appear.  He became a Warrior of Jesus Christ, boldly proclaiming the Good News!

Aloha Uncle Kaliko - in the sweet by & by we will meet on that beautiful shore - You are forever in our hearts!
