Obituary for Msgr. Howard Calkins

Calkins, Msgr. Howard W. on April 14, 2017. A priest of the Church at New York, ordained on May 27th, 1967. He was the son of the late Howard and Mary Ellen(nee McGovern) Calkins and brother of Carole and her husband Bertram Furgess. The uncle of Michael, Chris, Kevin and Mark LeMoult and the late Kelly LeMoult. he is also survived by 10 grand nieces and nephews.
Msgr. Calkins, while pastor of Sacred Heart parish in Mt. Vernon,1997-2013, served as the Regional Vicar of the South Shore Vicariate, 1997-2010. He was pastor of St. Joseph of the Holy Family parish, Harlem, 1982-1995, and was co-pastor of St. Jerome’s, the Bronx, 1980-1982. He served as parochial vicar of: St. Charles Borromeo, Harlem, 1996; Corpus Christi, Manhattan, 1976-1980; St. John’s, Kingsbridge, the Bronx, 1971-1976; and St. Matthew’s, Hastings-on-Hudson, 1967-1971. He was a member and leader of Jesu Caritas, a priests’ fraternity;
a faithful friend to all and a true disciple of Jesus.

The wake will be held on Friday from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cardinal O’Connor Clergy Residence 5655 Arlington Avenue, Bronx NY and Saturday morning 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at
The Church of St. Joseph of the Holy Family 405 West 125th St. Manhattan. The Mass of the Resurrection will be prayed at 10:00 AM. He will be buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery
