This is my favorite photo of Ted and is one of many happy memories. It was the first Saturday in September 1994. The weather was beautiful and that meant my daughters Maria and Anne and I would be at Tobay beach with a bunch of friends. We spent alot of time at that beach, but this day was different. I had just started dating Ted's Dad Jim and I knew he would be joining us for the first time and he was bringing his 12 year old son Ted. I took this picture and have always loved it. Ted was rolling around in the sand right where the waves wash up. He was covered in sand and he was laughing and having the best time. He was the new kid that day. No problem, he fit in like he had always been there. I remember watching him and wondering who is this and what is our future together?
Well, he became a son to me and a brother to my girls, especially Anne who is only one year younger. The two of them grew up together and remained close. They knew every single word of The Goonies and most of Gremlins too. When we went on vacation to visit my brother in Wisconsin, they made up their own language and made him crazy. It was all good. In sunshine and shadow, we were family and Ted and his sister Donna have added more joy to my life than I ever imagined. Goodbyes like this break our hearts, but I am so grateful Ted was in my life. Thank you Ted for sharing your life with me, for the laughing and the crying, for all of it. I love you now and always - Patrice
