Milan Lenarsic, 88, of Canon City, passed away June 3, 2017. He was born in Slovenia on June 7, 1928 to Franc Lenarsic and Marija Pecovnik. He was the seventh child of ten, eight boys and two girls. They all worked hard on their small farm when they were young, as the family had little money. They experienced World War II and the difficulties of communism as a strong, Catholic family. Five of Milan’s brothers were killed after the war. Milan was hidden in Austria and was a refugee.
Milan was sponsored by the Holy Cross Abbey. He came to Canon City in 1953 and worked for the Anton Adamic family farm and ranch. In 1957, he began living at and farming for the Holy Cross Abbey. He loved farming and ranching and was very proud of the Abbey’s beautiful campus. Milan did this for nearly 40 years.
He was friendly, caring, unselfish and had a great sense of humor. If you saw him, you would have seen his hat sloped to the sunny side to shade his blue eyes. He enjoyed going to Slovenian Hall in Pueblo and after retiring, he traveled some and hosted his niece to our area. He accepted his cross with a strong faith.
Milan was preceded in death by his family and is survived by his niece, Rose Butinar. She would like to thank Progressive Care Center for their love and care.
