Verna Juanita Moffitt, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2017, in Stillwater, OK.
Verna was born on May 19, 1927, to Reverend Charles and Bonnie (Allred) Hood in Hulbert, OK.
She graduated from high school in Independence, KS.
She married the love of her life, Gene Moffitt on September 5, 1946, in Coffeeville, KS. They were married 45 years until his death in 1991.
After her daughters were grown she worked as a Sales Clerk. She was a Christian and was very involved in her church wherever she attended. She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Stillwater, OK, at the time of her death. She was an excellent cook, loved to travel and was part of the Home Extension organization.
Verna loved her family, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great great grandson. They all brought her special joy. Her face would always light up when they came to visit. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; step-mother, Nellie (Brownback) Hood and one brother, Marvin Hood.
She is survived by her two daughters; Saundra Neely and husband Charley of Perkins; Pam Lunsford and husband W. H. of Oklahoma City; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother Manifred Hood and wife Phyllis, Shawnee, KS; and sisters Esther Dixon and husband John, Willow Springs, MO and Dorcas Cunningham and husband LeRoy, Willow Spring, MO.
Pallbearers will be grandsons; Honorary Pallbearers will be great grandsons.
Her visitation will be Wednesday, July 5, 2017, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater, OK. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Church of the Nazarene in Stillwater, OK. Interment and graveside service will follow at the Dewey Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. in Dewey, OK.
