Obituary for Minnie Chelette ""The Pie Lady"" Blair

Minnie Chelette ""The Pie Lady"" Blair
During the mist of the "Great Depression" on November 19, 1932 a baby girl was born to the union of Gordon & Hilda Hattaway Chelette. This baby girl was Named Minnie and was warmly welcomed by her older brothers, Lacy and Bernell. She would be the only girl among what would be three brothers, Wayne being born after her.

In much later years in the Colfax and surrounding communities, she came to be fondly known as "Miss Minnie, the pie-lady" She loved nothing better than feeding people. If you or your family were sick, or "just because", she arrived at your door with a pie, cake or a very large pot of homemade vegetable-beef soup and a pone of cornbread. Who can count the number of pies and cakes, but especially pies that she has baked and given away over the years? Her specialties were pecan, coconut, chocolate and lemon.

Minnie loved her church and was a faithful attendee at the Dartigo Church of God for many years.

She spent the last months of her life at Colfax Reunion Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she was lovingly cared for. After a long illness, it was there that she peacefully passed away in her sleep on July 13, 2017.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, Gordon and Hilda Hattaway Chelette; her husband, Carl Blair; her brothers, Lacy & his wife Hattie, Bernell and Wayne; her nephews Kenneth & Dale. Those left to cherish her memory are Audrey (Bernell's widow), Yvonne (Wayne's widow); nephews Steve (Chris) & Ray (Karen) and nieces Judy Lashley and Renee Garner (David); numerous great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial services are planned for Sunday July 30, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church on Hwy 34 near Montgomery with Rev. Chuck LaCroix and Rev. Jack McLaren officiating.
