Obituary for Harold R. Hutchinson

Harold R. Hutchinson, 88, of Newville, departed this life on the evening of Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Green Ridge Village.

He was born on September 13, 1928, in Shippensburg, a son of the late Ross and Mary Kohler Hutchinson. Harold was a U.S. Airforce veteran of WW II, enlisting on September 3, 1946 and honorably discharged on September 2, 1949. One year later, he married Louise Nenninger on September 12, 1950, in the parsonage of the Oakville U.M.C.

Harold worked as a baker for the former Henry’s Bakery, Shippensburg, for twenty years, prior to its closing. He also worked for SGL Abrasives, Carlisle, from which he retired. After retiring, Harold drove transportation for many of the local Mennonite families.

He was a member of the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W., #6168, Shippensburg and the Failor Wagner American Legion Post #421, Newville. Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing, knife and cane making, and coin collecting.

In addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, Louise, he is survived by two sons, Harold A. (Tammy) Hutchinson of Newville and Timothy G. (Danielle) Hutchinson of Shippensburg; four grandchildren, Mick (Tina) Hutchinson, Avery (Hannah) Hyser, Jade Hutchinson, and Zachary Hutchinson; five great grandchildren, Taylor, Sydney, and Owen Hutchinson, Isaiah Hyser, and Arys Hyser; one brother, Kenneth (Donna) Hutchinson of Shippensburg; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment with military honors will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
