I was shocked and in despair yesterday after receiving your call. I am truly sorry to hear of Pat's passing. I have written way too many of these emails over the years to friends as they have lost their parents and now we are in that stage of our lives where we are losing our partners who we have loved with all of our hearts and souls as is very evident with you and Pat. I wish I could reach out and hug you right now. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this very sad time. May all the good memories you have of Pat comfort you as you celebrate her time on earth. This is a very short but sweet journey that we call life and we need to value our family and friends and let them know every day that we love them. Your journey together has been a wonderful and blessed one creating a legacy to your family that will continue on. With that said, the love, the advice, the always present support, the casual family meal, the answering of a simple question, all that Pat did, will be missed. The memories and life lessons she shared will be there forever. And as Paul McCartney said for planning his funeral "songs should be sung, stories should be recalled and jokes should be told"and"it's the start of a journey to a much better place, and this wasn't bad so a much better place would have to be special. No need to be sad". Also as Jimmy Buffet sang "some of its magic, some of its tragic, but we had a good life all the way". Keep these lighter thoughts forefront as you remember your very special Pat. Love, Carl PS-Remember to take care of yourself these next days. I am sure your family and friends will see to that. Remember that life is good even in these times. It has been a wonderful life that we could not even think or dream about when we were kids. I am sure you and Pat said to each other many times- "we have been so lucky"!
