Obituary for Sheila Margaret Crosby

Sheila Margaret Crosby
Sheila Margaret Crosby
June 25, 1925- August 31, 2017
Passed peacefully at Ballycliffe Long Term Care Residence, Ajax, on Thursday August 31
Predeceased by loving husband Herb (2001) of 57 years. Beloved mother of Glenn (Pam), Merrill (Gord),
Skip (Margaret), Becky(John) and Kent(Judy, deceased), grandmother to 10 grandchildren and great grandmother to 12 great grandchildren.
Sheila arrived in Canada in 1946 as a war bride with a baby in tow and her husband still in England- what a way to meet the new in-laws!!
Mom and Dad eventually settled in Scaborough and spent their summers at their cottage at Catchacoma.
Upon retirement they moved to Tweed, and had many happy years as active members of that community.
Mom and Dad were always committed to politics with Mom being the backroom organizer and strategist to Dad's frontman.
Sheila was active in the community through the church, community groups and hospital auxiliary and sat on the Board of Scarborough Centenary Hospital for several years
She worked for the Ministry of Culture and Recreation and was Special Assistant to the Provincial Secretary for Social Development but her true passion was Guiding.
From her earliest involvement as a Brownie and Guide in Nether Poppleton, Yorkshire, to a local leader in Scarborough, to Ontario Provincial Commissioner, to Deputy National Commissioner, culminating with her role as Executive Director, Girls Guides of Canada for 9 years, and Interim Executive Director of the World Bureau in London England, Guiding allowed her to see many parts of the world and develop lasting friendships from all corners.
Thank you to all of the staff Ballycliffe Long Term Care Residence for their compassion and care. They created and nurtured a community that made Mom happy, loved, appreciated and stimulated.
In Sheila’s memory, please consider a donation to the Girl Guides of Canada, www.girlguides.ca
A brief funeral service, followed by a Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, 8911 Woodbine Ave. Markham, on Sunday September 24, 1:00.
