I am so sorry for your loss. He was a good man who touched so many lives with his unselfish care of all creatures great and small. I will never forget as a tween, the many times I saw him standing in the Port Authority bus port as my coach from MA to NYC was turning into the spot. He had just finished what I expect to have been a long exhausting day of work with an empty lunch bag in one hand, and I was only thinking about all the summer fun I'd be having with Judy. My first sight was always his free hand extending upwards to me to support and guide my descent from the bus. Next, his quick smile and purposeful walk through the bowels of NYC made it so I never really needed to understand or worry about anything other than the summer fun that was about to ensue. His compassion, and gestures sheltered me and allowed me to be a carefree kid. He put up with a lot of our teenage antics during those summers of fun. In later years, in my 20s, when I had my first job in the city and lived at the DeBlasio house, he always insisting that someone, usually Judy, picked me up at my bus stop on Lower Road to walk me down the street. We may get older, but allowing someone to feel safe never gets old. It's a gift he gave unconditionally. He was a solid, true gentlemen. I'll forever remember his goodwill towards me. I will extend my hand to others the way he did to me knowing his boundless heart continues to protect his loved ones.
