We miss you, Matt.
I taught vocal music at Franklin Elementary School for fifteen years, until 2011. This was not my first experience in Baltimore County schools, and I worked in many schools before coming to Franklin. Matt was, by far, the most dedicated, helpful, professional, and kind building supervisor I have ever met. So many times, he knew what I needed even before I was aware myself. I must have asked him for more help than the rest of the faculty and staff combined, particularly before concert time.
Matt was always there for all of us,with his unique sense of humor. I spoke to Matt the day before his death, when I visited Franklin Elementary for the Winter Sing Along. I am so glad I had the opportunity to tell him once again just how much the Franklin family cared for him. His death leaves a void not only in his family but in the community as well.
When we think of Matt, we will have tears in our hearts, but we want the Russell family to know that he made the Franklin world a better place to be and we will remember him with fondness always.
