Eulogy for Susanne Lammers

Eulogy for Susanne Lammers 2018.01.06

Susanne was

My beautiful bride, a wonderful wife, the perfect partner but most of all she was my best friend.

Susanne and I have been together 33 years and last year we celebrated Susanne’s 50th birthday and our 25th wedding anniversary.

It all started in 1985 when this gorgeous girl invited me over to her house for dinner. She made an incredible dinner and two home-made desserts apple pie and black forest cake. I was hooked instantly.

Susanne was not only a natural beauty she was a kind, warm and loving person with a beautiful smile that would warm your heart.

Susanne enjoyed meeting new people and touched many hearts throughout the world. Susanne spoke German, English, Swiss-German and French fluently, but it was the warm smile the brightened your day.

Susanne was a world traveler and adventurer. She started very early; at the tender age of 3 months she travelled from Germany to Canada with her mother to join her father to start a new life in a new country.

Then starting at age 11 she travelled to Switzerland by herself to spend summers with her Oma where she learned Swiss-German. Susanne was fearless and determined always ready to go somewhere new and experience it to the fullest.

She graduated with honours from Markham District High School and obtained her B.A. in History from McMaster University in Hamilton which she completed part-time while working full-time as a Legal Assistant. Susanne set her goals and achieved them.

In 1992 Susanne and I were married and then embarked on a seven month back-packing world tour for our honeymoon. Spending 24hrs/day together for seven months was a beautiful way to start our marriage.

In 1996 we had the opportunity to move to Munich Germany for a two year expat assignment working with BMW. Susanne the fearless one was very supportive and excited to start a new experience in Germany.

In a matter of days of our arrival Susanne starting working for a Relocation company helping expats from all over the world settle comfortably in Munich. The warm and caring person Susanne made everyone at ease and comfortable during their transition to a new land.

In addition to working as Manger for the Relocation Company, Susanne also started her own translation company doing translations for BMW and the EU.

Susanne enjoyed yoga and even did a yoga instructor course in Maya Tulum Mexico. But Susanne’s favourite past time was baking. She was always making cookies, scones, pies or cakes. All delicious.

We continued to enjoy living in Munich, using Munich as a base to see more of the world. We did safaris in South Africa and India. Travelled to Hong Kong, China and Japan and travelled extensively throughout Europe with Susanne’s favourite destinations being London, the South of France and Italy.

Susanne followed the wise words of her father Salu that he told us on our wedding day.

Those words were to ENJOY LIFE.

Susanne lived life to the fullest. Today on the 50th anniversary of Susanne starting her travelling adventure on this earth, Susanne starts a new adventure in heaven.  Her soul lives on and Susanne is at peace. I ask you all to remember Susanne and her warm smile. I ask you all to ENJOY LIFE.

Peace be with you.

Love,

Dwight J. Lammers
