Jayni and I have been friends for approximately 30 years, and have many wonderful and funny stories that spanned that time frame. However, the one we laughed about the most was when we were roommates in Flagstaff, Az. Every Saturday we would clean our apartment. Either Jayni's mother or mine would always call when we were cleaning. Our mother's would ask "What are you doing?", and then their next statement would be--"Are you doing your share? or "Well, I'd better hangup so that you can do your part.". The same mother conversation happened every Saturday when we were roommates. We would bet on whose mother would call first, and if the mother would tell us to help each other.
One of my names for Jayni was Miss Congeniality! It didn't matter if we were at a festival in Tucson or a state bilingual meeting she seemed to know everyone there, and had something relevant to talk with them about.
Jayni was a strong, free thinking woman who spent her life fighting for minority students, and the under privileged. Most importantly, she was my best friend that I will miss immensely!
