Obituary for Robert James Rye

Robert James Rye
With sadness but grateful for the peace the death has brought him, the family of Robert (Bob) James Rye announce his death on February 15, 2018 at the age of 72. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis took him away from us far too soon.
Bob is survived by his wife Lee, son Joel (Leesa Bisson) and daughter Morrie (Keith Elfenbein) and was Papa to his perfect grandchildren whom he adored - Kaylynn, Talia, Chayse and Tyson. He is also survived by his mother Pat Rye, sisters Marilyn Taylor and Jan (Vic Hiebert) and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Bob was predeceased by his children Denny Jason and Erin Elizabeth, father Jim Rye, brother-in-law Murray Taylor and in-laws Gordon and Collette Binnie.
Bob was employed with the City of Winnipeg, Works and Operations for 30 years.
Besides his family, Bob’s passion was football. In his youth, he played quarterback for the Fort Garry Lions and Weston Wildcats. His coaching career began in 1967 and included the Fort Garry Lions and Winnipeg Rods. He was inducted into the Fort Garry Lions Football Club Hall of Fame in 2002 as a player/coach. He was also inducted into the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame in its inaugural year in 2010. He was very humbled by this honor stating that he knew many others that deserved this award before him.
As a family we will be eternally grateful to so many– far too many to name. Your caring and support have been incredible. The tributes that have been posted in Bob’s honor have overwhelmed us.
A special thanks to those that provided medical care to Bob over the past 3 years. To Dr. L. Homik, Headstart and the Ofev Drug Program, Rana Home Oxygen, Winnipeg Palliative Care Home Program and his wonderful nurses and Riverview Health Centre and absolutely all of the staff on 3E.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 3 p.m. at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road. Rev. Min-Goo Kang officiating.
