There were six of us children. Our Daddy was Gerald Andrew Thornhill, Bill's oldest brother. Daddy was in the service so we didn't actually get to grow up around Uncle Bill or the rest of our Aunts and Uncles or our cousins. We did, however, love it when we got to visit and we especially loved visiting Uncle Bill and his family, Aunt Pattigail, Veronica, Shonda, Li'l Bill and Wendy...cute little Patrick came along after this.
Uncle Bill would fill us with tales about his ranch and living out west and we believed every word since we never saw him without that cowboy hat. In the evening, after we ate, he would load us up in the car and we'd take a ride to the service staion while he regaled us of stories about ranch life. He'd put gas in the car and take us inside and get us a treat...to this day, I love the smell of gasoline as it's getting pumped...I really don't think it's the smell I love so much though as it is the memories the smell invokes.
When vacation was over and we had to go back home, we all were upset, but especially our brothers, Butch, Bobby, and Jimmy...they wanted to go live with Uncle Bill and Aunt Pattigail on 'the ranch'...sure wish we had spent more time with him...thank you for the memories Uncle Bill. They're some of the best of my childhood.
Love you...Carolyn Ann
