Given the small size of that dorm room relative to our adult-sized bodies, it was somewhat like sharing a womb with John for those nine months of our freshman year, so no wonder we came out like fraternal twins in several ways. Forty-five years later we still gravitated toward the same music, literature, and politics. In those days, I felt I almost knew Kevin and the folks. More recently, Lorie and especially Taylor, although John had the good sense not to expose you to the Texas rabble. I loved John for his intelligence, curiosity, competitiveness, and above all, his inclusive acceptance of all of us from different walks. I miss him dearly but take comfort in knowing he was at peace with himself and fulfilled in his life.
