The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Richard Bennett can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Dave Peck

I met Richard in grade school (second grade) and remained good friends through high school and beyond. There are so many memories of growing up together, getting in trouble, and having a lot of fun. Richard was very competitive, crafty, athletic, smart, and had a zest for life. We spent countless hours competing in video games, Rubik’s cube, drums, and even created our own challenges on the playground and everywhere else. Richard’s Mom was very sharp and could usually figure out when we were up to something. We learned to cover our tracks fairly well; even so, Joy almost always managed to sniff out the truth, giving us a forced break in playdates for a while. Richard was very crafty….. Joy never knew that we could navigate around the entire living room and dining room without touching the floor (after this challenge, we spent some time with Pledge and dust rags to remove all traces of footprints and fingerprints). In high school, we spent many hours in the percussion section making musical noise and mostly goofing off. I look back now and have some regret for the problems we caused the band director and for the various shades of red that he turned in abject frustration with us. Unfortunately, Richard and I lost touch after high school as we both moved away from Battle Creek but managed to keep in touch infrequently through his Mother. I am proud of Richard’s service in the Army and that he made a good life for himself and his family. Rest in peace my old friend, I will cherish the memories and our friendship forever. God Bless and provide comfort to his family and many friends.
