My friend Pete

I believe I first met Pete my sophomore year of High School. I saw this tall, lumbering figure that I did not recognize walking in the hallway, and I thought he might be a substitute teacher. I was way off. Come to find out this was one favorite teachers Ruth Macombers son. We quickly bonded over our love of Star Wars and became fast friends. This expanded to our love of other Sci Fi and Horror movies and more specifically in the special effects and interests behind the scenes on how they were accomplished. I have been friends with Pete these past 37 years. We have grown up and seen each experience different relationships, personal growth, interests, jobs, and a host of other changes over that time. One of the most obvious ways that Peter excelled was that he was exceptionally creative. He was an artist, a videographer, photographer, and a filmmaker. He ended up making two feature films, In the Darkness Waiting and Black Widows which is available on Amazon to stream. Most also know this but for those that do not, Peter had an exceptionally compassionate and caring nature. When I was going through my first divorce ( yes, I am a slow learner) Pete would call and check up on me almost daily for several months to help me get though that and make sure I was OK. That caring can be seen throughout his lifetime with others he briefly knew to others hes known for long period. He so valued his family. All of us are fallible and have certain issues we wrestle with and Pete was no exception. He may have fallen short at times, but his intentions were always the best. He loved his children immensely and would try to support them, be available, make sacrifices and provide to the best of his ability given his circumstances. Pete lost his father at an early age, so he had a great bond with his mother Ruth and brother Paul. He also spoke to me of how much he looked up to and admired his uncle Steve among others in his extended family. I feel so sorry for your loss. I pray for comfort and peace during this time. Peters passing will never truly leave you, but my hope is that in time, the edges of the hole that you now feel in your heart will heal over. I will miss my friend and brother tremendously. All the history we shared, conversations, stupid thigs we did, inside jokes and shorthand we had, will never be replicated. I recently came across a beautiful quote from Eleanor Roosevelt. She said, Enjoy every minute you have with those you love my dear, for no one can take that joy that has passed away from you. It will be there in your heart to live on when the dark days come. These kinds of events serve as a reminder to tell and show those close to you, that you love them. Try to see those great times and memories through the tears when possible. You are gone way to soon Pete. I love you, I will miss you and I will see again someday!
