When I began my teaching career in Grosse Pointe, Penny was one of the first to eagerly share ideas, books, and lesson possibilities with me. She always had a kind word and also helped new teachers navigate some issues they don't cover in college courses, such as the byzantine world of school politics!
Penny was a great asset when I began teaching Humanities, too, and I'll never forget a snowy drive through the Pointes with her and a colleague. I chauffeured while Penny shared with us the architectural and historic highlights of Grosse Pointe. She was in her element. During these moments--a drive, an after-school conversation, a department meeting--we encountered a colleague and friend who truly enjoyed learning, sharing, and savoring life!
