The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of William Franks can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Great Mentor & Pastor

I first met Dan when I was a young Chaplain Candidate doing a training tour at Randolph AFB. He taught an adult Sunday School class at the chapel the weekend my wife Jean flew in from NM for a visit toward the end of my tour. On Sunday afternoon as we were walking back to the BOQ from lunch at the club, Dan saw us and stopped. He asked if we had a car, and when he found we did not he got out of his yellow Datsun pickup and said, "Here, take my pickup. I'm going TDY tomorrow. You can leave it at my house when you are through with it."  And he walked off toward his base quarters!  Dan made a big impression on me every time our paths crossed over the years that followed, always the gentle wise mentor, and the caring pastor. He was a great example to many young chaplains, a wonderful pastor to God's people, and a true servant of God. He lives on in the lives of the many he blessed over his years of dedicated service.
