I was fortunate to count James as a dear friend and mentor. James took me under his wing shortly after I became a lawyer at Holland & Knight in 2000. I learned a lot from James and worked with him on his Native American related cases. I travelled with him across the country working on these cases while at Holland & Knight. I always appreciated James' wit, charm and advice. We recently connected the last few years of his life and he was still trying to find ways to help me in my career and create an opportunity for us to work together. We would share ideas, strategies, approaches and concepts. I was shattered to learn of his passing and will never forget the many life and work lessons he shared. My prayers continue to be with his family. God bless.
