Dennis L Kodner, PhD, FGSA is a global health systems consultant specializing in integrated care strategies and solutions. Recognised internationally for his leading-edge work as a ‘thinker and doer’ on innovative health and social services for chronically ill, disabled and medically fragile populations, Dr. Kodner recently served as an International Visiting Fellow at The King’s Fund, London, UK. He was founding Director and Professor of Medicine of the Center for Gerontology & Geriatrics at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) School of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as The Rose Dobrof Chair and Professor of Urban Public Health of Brookdale Center on Aging of Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY). He currently holds an adjunct appointment as Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine at McGill University in Canada. The author of 100+ publications, Dr. Kodner has consulted with national policy and commissioning bodies, NGOs, foundations, think tanks, and provider organizations in the U.S. and throughout the world. He also served as a Special Advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition, Dr. Kodner has held senior management posts at a ‘continuum of care’ health system, teaching nursing home, HMO and hospital. He is best known for his pioneering work as the CEO and Principal Investigator of the Elderplan Social Health Maintenance Organisation—an early American model of integrated care for the elderly. A Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and the New York Academy of Medicine, Dr. Kodner serves on the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Integrated Care and Home Health Care Services Quarterly. He is a non-executive Director of the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC) and sits on numerous advisory bodies. In 1999, Dr. Kodner received the prestigious Key Award for Leadership in Gerontological Health Policy, Research, Education and Practice given by the American Public Health Association (APHA).
