Joyce and Family - I had the honor of working for Marty as a Management Intern in the late 1990s. He influenced my leadership style and mentoring of others, encouraging me to pay it forward. Marty is one of the key reasons I serve in the city management profession today. Years later, I had the pleasure of placing one of my own interns into the ASU MPA Program, as a Marvin Andrews Fellow. The call I got from Marty, then a Professor at ASU, was one of the best moments of my career. Marty was an amazing mentor to anyone with an interest. Many of us continue to work and live by his words "do good", which in so many ways defined him. Marty didn't just do good, he did great. He left us all in a better place.
